Memang tarian ini lahir di Melbourne Underground Scene, Australia pada tahun 1980an. Mereka yang menarikan gerakan ini disebut shufflers.
Di luar negeri tarian ini sudah terkenal sejak lama, termasuk ABG-ABG di negara tetangga kita, Malaysia dan Brunei. Di Indonesia sendiri, shuffle dance semakin populer.
